"To me, Bob Dogan has always been the quintessential jazz musician. You can hear it in his voice when he talks, see it in his gait as he walks, and damn sure feel it in the way he plays and composes. This recording is Bob at his best. So, if you are yet to hear his sound, sit back and expect to be moved. If you already know Bob Dogan, right on brothers and sisters."  Gordon Brisker

Jim Josselyn Cadence:
""Salishan," a Native American word meaning "coming together from diverse points to communicate in harmony," is an apt title for this fine recording from Chicago pianist, composer and arranger Bob Dogan. The music, musicians and styles represented here do indeed come together from diverse points and the do communicate in perfect harmony! The title track and opener, "Salishan," is a superb ensemble piece with interesting rhythms, warm chord voicings, and unison ostinato piano/bass lines supporting a joyous melody, with fine counterpoint soloing from trombonist Kevin Quail and saxman Ron Dewar. The pleasant surprises keep coming with "Where's Paul," a pretty Vince Guarauldi-ish trio number.

"Apache Way" is a Coltrane-esque 6/8 Afro-Cuban groove-out, with neat solos from Dogan and guitarist John McLean. On "Scoot'n," we're treated to a sharp, swinging Horace Silver inspired chart with strong blowing and a hard groove. "Third Eye" is a hip, bluesy little side-winder, set up nicely by Dogan's solo piano ruminiations. Featured soloist John McLean takes a relaxed, rjythmic solo with sly references to the great, warm-toned, straight-ahead guitar men that have preceded him. According to Dogan's raspy vocal and McLean's mean guitar, that "Ole  Fat Lady" was a hip, down-to-earth gal. By and large this recording shows Bob Dogan t be an accomplished, masterful Jazz composer with range, style and humor, and a bandleader who's not afraid to let his extremely gifted sidemen shine. Check this one out--you won't be disappointed.""
